Grand Tour of Turkey

Vacation Overview
A country of many contrasts, Turkey is a unique crossroads between Europe and Asia. Begin in Istanbul—a vibrant city of mosques, markets, and historic buildings of Byzantium Constantinople fame—and drive along the Sea of Marmara to Gallipoli on the European side of the Dardanelles. Visit the World War I battle site, then ferry across to Asia Minor. Take time to visit the remains of Homer’s legendary Troy, then motor through forested countryside to Kusadasi, famous for the Ephesus archaeological site. Continue through the “Greek Meander,” the most fertile region in Turkey. Stop in Pamukkale with the ancient site of Hierapolis and spend the night in the Denizli area. By way of Konya, stop at the great 13th-century Agzikarahan caravanserai, then to Göreme for an included visit to the amazing rock chapels carved by early Christians. Arrive in Turkey’s capital of Ankara. From here, travel into the kingdom of Phrygia to Gordion. Visit King Midas’ tomb before continuing to Bursa, famous for its great mosque, covered bazaar, and silk market. Return to Istanbul and be sure to catch the unforgettable sight of the Bosporus at dusk.

Judith rated this tour a 5 on 4/26/2012 10:11:19 AM and says:

"It has been an absolutely wonderful tour of Turkey. Turkey met all my expectations and more. Accommodation and meals were faultless. The tour provided an exceptional insight into the country and the sightseeing built into the tour was so amazing. I would most certainly travel with Cosmos again and have no hesitation in recommending Global Journeys to everyone. My daughter and 14 year old grandson traveled with me and their sentiments are the same as mine. It was my grandsons first trip overseas, he can't wait to go again. A very special commendation goes to our tour director, Berna! A wonderful person who gave her all, 24/7. We hope to meet up with her again sometime. Also deserving of our thank you, is our coach driver a very comfortable and safe driver he was. Thank you to all involved with the putting together of this tour."
